TWIN 08- Project Details

TWIN - The traditional conference from AIESEC Karlsruhe

One of our biggest projects is TWIN. This conference week will take place for the 46th time in Karlsruhe. Traditionally it is held every year in November. The concept is simple: During one week of workshops, learning cycles and excursions; students from all over the world are encouraged to deal with the important topics of our time. By actively participating in lectures and discussions they gain a deeper understanding of different societal issues.

This year’s TWIN motto is “Water – Oil of the Future”. The conference will take place from October 30th through November 6th. Water is one of the most important resources in the world. It is the basis for life on this planet. But what happens when there is no fresh water left? Some regions of the Earth are already facing the problems of drought first hand. Moreover the glaciers and the ice of the poles are melting and our reserves of fresh water decline rapidly. Furthermore water is used as a clean way to produce power. That’s why we ask: How does affect this our lives and what can we do to save fresh water? To address these questions, TWIN first aims at providing a common basis of facts and knowledge. In panel discussions and presentations our guest speakers share their expertise with the participants. Our workshops are then designed to help create a greater grasp of the issues and topics at hand. We want to inspire the delegates to offer up their own solutions and to derive the steps to be implemented in their daily routines to live sustainably in their home countries.

Last but not least, TWIN also focuses on intercultural understanding. We offer activities that will help our delegates to better understand different cultures: To this end, companies in Germany are visited and even day-trips to other European cities are organized. Our international guests always room with German AIESEC members which makes their stay even more authentic. To include a broader public, our international delegates install so-called Global Villages at the university and invite students from Karlsruhe to country fairs to share their respective cultures. This is cultural exchange at its best!
